Medtronic is the world’s largest medical technology company, offering an unprecedented breadth and depth of innovative therapies to fulfill our Mission of alleviating pain, restoring health, and extending life. Last year, more than 9 million people benefited from our medical therapies, which treat cardiac and vascular diseases, diabetes, and neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.
     At Medtronic, they strive to do business with suppliers that exceed our expectations. Their look for specific criteria in their suppliers that will allow them to do business in an effective and efficient way, while meeting their high quality standards.
     They really concern about the criteria. For example, total costs criteria must achieve lowest total cost competitive pricing, achieved through high quality and low cost processes. Second is quality. The supplier must have ability to meet requirements. Plus they must have excellent track record with quality and delivery through deployment of mature quality management systems (i.e. ISO 13485, FDA QSR 21 CFR Part 820 CGMP). The supplier must have Skills and willingness to continuously improve manufacturability and reliability with an effective corrective and preventive action system and also have robust change notification control processes in place with supporting validation capabilities
     Furthermore, responsiveness is also ways to Medtronic look for specific criteria in their suppliers. Access to a global supply network and sub-tier supplier Effective management is a way to make the smooth responsiveness.

     Every company wants to avoid risk because risk is very danger to their company. Risk Mitigation is very important to supplier selection. Have are 4 term in risk mitigation for Medtronic company. First is financial stability and effective business continuity plans and processes. Second is mature risk analysis process and the ability to develop effective process controls that are sustained over time. Beside, suppliers that recognize they share in the responsibility to deliver the Medtronic Mission by adhering to Medtronic’s Responsible Supply Chain policies. The lastly is number five, that is compliance with applicable laws and diligent in ethical business practices, environmental responsibility, workplace health and safety, and human resources. This is important to complete the risk mitigation.
